41iwegZW8YL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA300_SH20_OU02_This is the first book I have read by Ms Winterson, I am sure it won’t be the last!  people have said she wrote this on the the back of a failed relationship it is described as  ‘a tender dissection of erotic love’.  the gender of the  narrater of this story is never revealed, Lesbians have of course assumned it is a lady, as indeed I did when I read this, the narrater is in love with Louise who is described as having flowing Pre-Raphaelite hair, and a body besieged by leukaemia, her cells waging war: “here they come, hurtling through the bloodstream trying to pick a fight.” prior to meeting Louise the narrator had never really felt love, so it came to ‘her’ as a shock, and when this love was taken away from her she couldnt cope,  Louise is married to Elginwho is described as “very eminent, very dull, very rich” it is in fact Elgin who persuades her to leave for the good of Louise’s health, It is as I mentioned a wonderfully well written book, you are soon right in the midst of all the angst and confusion, all I would say is that the ending was left wide open…..
