I am writing to you for information and help, I am researching custody cases involving LGBT parents from the 1970s and 1980s. We are looking for LGBT parents who would be interested in telling their stories and the struggles that they faced, being parents in the early years of acceptance.
My colleague Candi and I have recently set up a production company where we aim to produce LGBT films and documentaries. We have recently completed a 30 min documentary on Same Sex Ballroom dancing where we followed 2 couples from a minor competition in Paris to a the Blackpool championships.
Our next 2 projects are about the Section 28 and custody cases involving LGBT parents.
We are looking to meet parents involved in these case that might be interested in sharing their experience on camera. Due the sensitive nature of the subject we aim to work with the individuals to produce a film that is respectful to all involved and we would offer discretion if individuals are sensitive about identity. I understand you can not divulge personal details but it would be great if possibly this could be forwarded to your members perhaps? If anyone was involved in a custody case or knew people that were, it would be great to hear from them and their story.
Candi and I are passionate about producing well made thought provoking documentaries that bring to the world the difficulties and struggles that the LGBT community have faced. I believe documentaries such as these are important in bringing awareness to the struggles that we have faced, and are still facing.
Thank you for taking time to read this and I hope that this could be of interest to some people.
