Season four starts with the shocking realisation that Bette has done a runner with Angelica!! Shane leaves Carmen at the altar!! Helena is financially destitute after her mother withdraws the purse string, her money - serving as a lesson. This leaves Helena homeless so she moves in with Alice. The chart is lit up with the appearance of Papi, who has even more connections than Shane - can you believe it! In a hilarious scene, Alice learns exactly why - in the back of a Limo.
The whole series is enhanced with the genius casting of the always wonderful Cybil Shepherd as Phyllis. How I loved to watch one of my teenage favs play a lesbian. I was a bewildered teenager back in the years of Moonlighting - gorgeous. I could never in my wildest dreams have imagined that in later life she would play a lesbian! And also, so very well…..
Phyllis is Bette’s boss at her new job at the California Art College. Shane is left to look after her 9 year old brother, Max is fixed up with a date with his/her boss's daughter. Kit holds a western party at the Planet, Phyllis arrives and meets all of Bette’s friends - having come out to Bette she is now keen for some action.
Shane takes Helena on at Wax with some hilarious results. Jenny has a hard time dealing with criticism, and as you can imagine Jenny doesn't deal with this in a normal fashion! Alice ends up with Phyllis!! Max breaks up with Brook and Alice meets Papi's friend Tasha. Bette and her new partner Jodi try and help Phyllis deal with the breakup of her relationship with Alice. Jodi works at the college along with Bette and Phyllis.
Jenny’s story ‘Lez Girls’ is to be made into a movie, to mixed reactions within the group. Alice and Tasha end up getting it on after a heated discussion on race, Shane and Paige get it on in Shane's car. A ghost from the past in the guise of Marina appears in a dance routine in Jenny’s new film… much to her dismay. Helena gets deeper involved with Catherine and her gambling tricks, Max has to head home to his mother’s funeral, and has a hard time with his family over his change of gender. Kit ends up drinking after her break up with Angus, Tasha heads back to the war, Alice is devasted, Helena steals all Catherine's money to pay off her deb.
Come on Bette and Tina - get it together again, back where you both belong.
