An Introduction
The L Word - a brief outline of what happened to whom and when, as they say in America, contains spoilers. Many many spoilers…
For those of you wondering why we haven’t reviewed The L Word yet, I feel that it is such an important feature that we should donate a whole page for each season.
Television prior to TLW was such a vast desert, we clung to brief glimpses of our life style being portrayed on the telly and funnily enough seemed to think that was enough.
I can remember years ago attending a party in honour of the Brookside kiss - it being such a big deal back then. Then there was Bad Girls and lots of little story lines in various soaps. Then… word filtered out that an American show was being made based around a group of lesbian friends, could this be true? It got even better when we got to see the women involved, who is your favourite?
Great plot lines to rival the great soap days of Dynasty, such fantasy to lose ourselves in after a bad day at the office. So I will try and review season by season, I feel I may have to suffer the stress of starting from the beginning and watching it all over again.
Let’s hope that a la Sex in the City, we will get a movie version.
Note from the partner of LNL's designer:
Why do I love TLW? Because I do!
I have watched each series over and over again. In fact I couldn't even wait for each series to come out in the UK and had friends walking the streets in New York to purchase the dvd to bring home to me.
I wasn't truly liberated as a lesbian until I was 40. As a white middle class girl, I had spent years closest and only found my true self and empowerment after a failed long term relationship.
For me TLW was totally refreshing and uplifting. There was laughter, tears, passion and hot sex and all this built in and around a bunch of professional lesbian ladies. By giving this programme the air time, this was truly accepting of the gay community that exists and lives their lives to the full.
My absolute favourite is the gorgeous and sexy Tina, Laurel Holloman. What a path her story told throughout the drama and to her credit shows what a great actress she is because she pulled it off no problem. However, I always hoped Bette and Tina would find their way again because the passion between the two was immense.
Other ladies from TLW who I definitely wouldn't say no to: Bette, Helena and Marina. All gorgeous, extremely sexy and very talented.
Helena's sex scenes with Dylan - what can I say, in particular the scene at the beach house.
And Marina's sexy voice!
How lucky were we to get six whole series of this wonderful drama. Why did it have to stop?
It is one of my favourite programmes of all time - it gave me the nod of acceptance which has always eluded the television.
Thanks ShowTime - it was a long time in the coming but I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it!
