In 2007, Ruta starred in the hit Showtime series The Tudors alongside Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Henry Cavill. It was also picked up by the BBC and CBC and aired in October 2007.
In January to March 2009, she performed in the Olivier Award-winning stage production of Spring Awakening. Ruta played Ilse, a childhood friend of Melchior who runs away from a sexually abusive home to become a Bohemian.
In August 2009, Ruta filmed the dark British thriller, Prowl, directed by Patrik Syversen. The film is slated for a late 2010 release.
In July 2010, she was cast in the female lead role of Ursula in the new television series The Borgias. The Showtime epic starts shooting in August in Budapest and Ruta stars opposite Jeremy Irons with Neil Jordan directing. The series is set in 1492 Rome and tells the story of the noble Borgia family who came into power and became infamous for their abuse of their authority, leaving an enduring legacy of their corruption.
Also in July 2010, Ruta completed filming T In The Park, set at the Scottish music festival in Scotland. The story follows an indie-rock singer who finds himself handcuffed to the leader of a big U.S. rock band.
Ruta will next hit television screens in October 2010, where she plays the central role in the new BBC series Lip Service. Reminiscent of the US phenomenon, The L Word, this bold new six-parter about the sex lives and relationships of a group twenty-something lesbians living in contemporary Glasgow, has been written and created for the BBC by Harriet Braun. Ruta plays Frankie, an irreverent and provocative photographer who avoids commitment at all turns.
